November 2005

Gina took a quick trip to Cuxhaven, Germany to look at a lovely 2 1/2 yr old stallion by Furst Heinrich.  He will be a great addition to The Firelight Group Inc.!  He will be castrated in Germany and we will keep you informed on his arrival. The Stephen Clarke clinic was a great success.  Everyone attending had a great time watching Stephen work with the horses and riders to improve gaits and overall performances in the dressage ring.  It was a bit cool the first day but the sun came out for Saturday and it was great for November!  Thanks to everyone who helped make the clinic such a success!

Gina and Andrea were asked to participate and demonstrate in the "Linking the Steps" Symposium given by Klaus Balkenhol and Debbie MacDonald.  Both Raffles and Frappuccino did their part to help out the clinicians and the symposium was very informative.  Lots of good discussion about some very hot issues in the dressage world. The new syndicate which owns "Delight" - The Firelight Group Inc. - recently purchased a lovely 6 yr old Dutch Warmblood gelding sired by Nevado/ Voltaire.  Gina can add him to her group of promising youngsters.  He is very green since he was just backed and started in January of 2005, but he has a great temperament and will learn easily.   "Simm" is a dark grey  and Diana Weatherall spent all morning watching him and all the horses school on Oct. 25.  It was great to have her visit!

Andrea completed her Level 3 coaching exam in Vancouver so Franklands Farm now boasts 2 Certified level 3 Dressage Coaches.  We are all very proud of this accomplishment!

We look forward to hosting a Clinic with Stephen Clarke on Nov 11 - 12 organized by Cadora.  He will have several horse/rider combinations riding different dressage tests and go over "The Judges point of View" with the auditors.  It should be very interesting coming from such a qualified judge. Friday Nov 11, 1:45pm - 6:30pm
Saturday Nov 12, 8:30am - 12:30pm
ALL SEATS HAVE BEEN SOLD

We wish everyone competing in the World Cup Final at The Royal Winter Fair lots of luck!

Andrea had great success with L'Amistad at the Ontario Championships in the  FEI 6 yr old division as well as 3rd Level winning the championships at both levels.  A great end to a great season! Franklands Farm had great results at the CDI*** in Ottawa!  Andrea won both the Prix St Georges and the Intermediare 1 with Raffles.  We are all very proud of her.  She was also very successful in the Freestyle placing second.  Andrea was also part of the 3rd place Canada Cup Team along with team mates Liz Steacie and Ruth Crawford.  Good Job!!!

Andrea placed 4th with L'Amistad in the FEI 6yr old classes and was 4th overall in the championship.  Andrea rode Daylight to Reserve Champion 1st level in the Open division and had some very good scores with Cashmere at 2nd Level.

Gina rode Frappuccino to the Reserve Championship at 2nd level in the Open division and Encore had some very high scores in the 3rd level division.

Amanda Kalvoda finished her show season on Dance with very good scores in 3rd level and won the last class at the show!

Raffles and Andrea were 3rd in the Prix St Georges with 67.5%, 2nd in the Intermediare 1 with 68% and 3rd in the Intermediare Freestyle with 70.8%. Andrea rode L'Amistad in the FEI 6 yr old classes to a score of 7.8 in both the Preliminary and the Finale and was placed 3rd in both classes. In the National show, Andrea rode Cashmere in the Second Level Classes and had scores from 64 - 70% ending up as Second Level Reserve Champion of the Open division. Amanda Kalvoda showed in the Third level classes and had a first day score of 70% so also took home a Reserve Championship at Third Level in the Open Division. The weather was hot and humid the first day but we had a lovely cold front come through providing a beautiful next 3 days, sunny and a much cooler breeze. We look forward to the CDI Ottawa also organized by Equivents Inc. at the end of August. We have a full list of Faith and Bill's grandchildren here for the month and they are all having great lessons on Daylight, Mozart and Flingie.

July 2005

Gina and Andrea attended the Palgrave Summer Festival and took home championships in both Advanced and Second Levels.  Gina rode Frappuccino to 3 - 1sts and a 3rd in the mud, rain and muggy weather.  He scored from 65 - 72% and just missed making the draw for the two week championship golf cart!  Andrea rode Raffles to a close 2nd in the Prix St Georges with 70.875%, as well as 2nd in the Intermediare 1 with 68.250 and went on to win the freestyle with 69.125%. Raffles and Andrea were in the draw of 15 for the two week champion for the golf cart but luck was not on our side for that.We drove home in the warm muggy weather picking up Mozart on the way for the grandchildren to enjoy for the summer.  Mozart is just the right size for the little children to groom and for lead line work so we are very happy to have him back for a few weeks.

We look forward to competing at Friends of the Park in Ottawa July 30-31 and then on to Toronto for the CDI there the first week of August.

Blainville CDI / National show was a great success for Franklands Farm.  We had 5 horses from the farm competing and several students.  It was a long hot humid week but the horses all went well inspite of the weather.

Andrea and Raffles were in the CDI Prix St Georges and was 5th with 65.4, her Intermediare 1 was much better and she was 3rd with 67.4.  The freestyle was Saturday evening with a sold out audience under the lights and Raffles settled well to earn 4th place and 68.32%.  Andrea also rode L'Amistad in the FEI 6 yr old classes and was 3rd in both with 70.2 and 71.0.  L'Amistad did the 3rd level national show as well and was 2nd in the 3rd 2 with 67.3% and 4th in 3rd 3 with 62.44%.  Andrea was kept busy with Cashmere too in 6 - 2nd level classes

where she placed in every class with scores from 64 - 68%.  Cashmere proved to be very consistent and was obedient in every one of the 4 rings.  Andrea also picked up a "catch ride " with Louise Meichowsky's Festival to get him through his first show experience at 1st and 2nd level.

Gina rode Frappuccino in all the 2nd level classes and was consistently placed with scores from 65 - 68%.  Encore was very good in the 3rd level and won both 3rd - 2 and 3rd - 3 with 69 and 65% ending up the reserve 3rd level open champion.

Students -  Sheri Doornekamp competed well in the 3rd level adult amateur with Elegance, Stef Roffey had lots of ribbons in the junior 2nd level with Cygnus and we congratulate Marie Jose Delisle on her debut in Intermediare 2 and Grand Prix at the national level with Washakie.  Well Done everyone!!

Gina  looks forward to CDI Pebble Beach, July 6 - 10 where she will be helping Lorraine Chappell with her horses Carpetino and Whitney.

Then we are off to Toronto again for the 2nd Palgrave show ....keep looking for those results.

June 2005

We had a very good show at Palgrave, north of Toronto, June 3 - 5. Star of the stable was certainly Andrea with Raffles who won both the Prix St Georges and Intermediare 1 with 70.87 and 70.62% respectively!! She had the advanced championship as well after placing 3rd in the freestyle with 67.5% There were some unexpected delays and so she was 1/2 hour later than planned on a very hot day so Raffles was a bit flat.

Andrea also showed L'Amistad, making his debut at 3rd Level, and had very decent scores of 62 to 66% Excellent showing for a 6 year old at this level!!Encore was consistent in the 3rd level classes with Gina riding and his scores were 62.9, 66.8 and 67.2. He did have a couple of spooks at the clapping from another ring but the judge, Cara Whitham, thought we made good use of impulsion!!!

Frappuccino was also consistent in the second level classes with scores from 64 - 68%. I felt he was a bit nervous but I think he will settle down with time. He certainly won't have trouble in warm weather, lots of turbo power there!

I am also very proud of Barbara Fogler who showed Donatello to the third level Adult Amateur Championship!! Good work!!

We are looking forward to CDI Blainville soon so watch for those results next!

May 2005

Frappuccino and Gina went on to Millar Brooke Farm on Sunday May 22 and demonstrated some dressage at "The Celebration of the Horse'.   This was an Open House at Ian Millar's Millar Brooke Farm and later a lifesize bronze statue was dedicated to Ian and his legendary horse Big Ben in the town of Perth.  It was well attended with at least 4,000 people filling the stands around his jumper field.  Frappuccino was a real ham and showed off as much as he could.  Gina wore a mike and explained what was happening and it was very much appreciated by all.  We made a quick exit before the RCMP musical ride did their display!!  For more info go to www.bigben.ca

We have a new pony named Daylight, she is a 5 year old German Riding Pony imported in September 2004.  Her sire is the famous Don't Worry out of a Golden Dancer mare.  This was her debut show at Evergreen Farm where she received scores of 67 and 68% in the Training Level 4 and First Level 1. Faith's grandchildren take riding lessons on her during the summer months.

This picture has Andrea riding her at the show.  She has a lovely temperament and seems to be perfect in every way.

Our first show was the Ottawa CDI and went very well.  Frappuccino was placed  in 3 second level classes one 1st with 67%, 3rd with 62% and 4th with 65%. The classes were all very large so we weren't allowed any mistakes at all!!  Encore won the third level championship with 2 firsts with a 67% and 69% and 4th with 65%. Encore won a lovely print that we will frame and hang in the coffee room. Andrea rode Raffles to 2 8th place finishes in Prix. St Georges and Intermediare I with 63% in both classes.  She finished 3rd in the Intermediare Freestyle with a 66%.  Andrea also rode Lori Garlough's L'Amistad in the FEI 6 year old classes and he was very well behaved in his first CDI and had solid scores of 6.4 and 6.3.
